This starved pup was almost like BAG OF BONES
A puppy was found on the brink of death after having been starved for weeks. Lucky for her, the owner of the animal rescue center found her just in the nick of time.
This dog was in a very bad state when she was brought to Dog House animal rescue center in Granada, Spain. Her protruding bones were falling out of her skin and her organs were beginning to fail her, because she had apparently been starved for two weeks. The volunteers and the staff at the center were not very optimistic about her condition.
The poor pup could neither walk nor stand on her own, because of her weak and brittle bones, plus the fact that she had so little muscle. She was quite literally a bag of bones.
Fortunately for the dog, Eduardo Rodriguez, the owner of the animal rescue center decided to take her into his home and bring her to the vet. He named her “Barilla Spaghetti,” because she was literally skin and bones. When the vet saw her, he too was not happy with Barilla’s condition and told Eduardo that she could die soon.
They started treating Barilla right away and she was put on a drip, so as to reinvigorate her failing organs. Her weight had also fallen to 16 pounds and she needed to be fed to fatten her up and give her more strength. She stayed on the drip first before feeding began.
Eduardo rescued Barilla just in the nick of time, because definitely, she might not have made it one more night.
Just so Barilla wouldn’t have to use her legs so much, a special harness was attached to her to prevent more damage to her brittle bones. Also, she was put in a basket, so she wouldn’t have to stand up to eat and drink. This way, Barilla would be able to regain her lost weight and strength faster.
They believe that Barilla was kept locked up since she was born and that she had been deprived of food and water ever since. She is thought to be a Belgian malinois mix and is about 10-months to a year-old.
With Eduardo’s love and care, Barilla had been given immediate attention and was saved from near death. The amazing rescue staff is to thank as well, because of their compassion and for the responsibility they took in bringing Barilla back to health.
Now Barilla has found her forever home, as Eduardo has permanently adopted her. She now lives on the outskirts of Granada where she shares her home with Eduardo, his wife, their 14-year-old daughter and five other dogs.
“I’ve got five dogs at home with Barilla but she’s the first proper companion I’ve had since my old pet Boxer dog Turco died in an accident five years ago,” said Eduardo to the Dailymail.
“We’re inseparable now. She’s so intelligent and obedient. The first day I saw her I told my colleagues I was going to keep her and that’s the way it’s been.”
Barilla has definitely come a long way for a pup so young. Her resilience is undeniable as she has regained all the snap and enthusiasm a pup should have! With a little help from a few well-meaning people—including her devoted new owner, Eduardo—she has gained back the decency all living creatures deserve. Hasta la vista, Brilla!
